Brussels Event Wins Praise for North Sea Link

Not only was last week in Brussels busy for the UK politically, but it was also a big week for The North Sea Link Interconnector with stakeholder engagement centred around a launch for the North Sea Link (NSL) project.

The event, which was hosted by National Grid together with our North Sea Link project partner Statnett (the Norwegian Transmission System Operator), was attended by around 100 guests, including: members of the European Commission; European Union (EU) energy stakeholders; members of the project team; and a host of both present and former MEPs who have been involved in the project’s success.

In his speech, Vice-President of the Energy Union for the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič praised the project and the work that is being done on interconnection in the North Sea. He also told the project partners that the North Sea Link was a significant step in strengthening regional energy cooperation.

The line-up of speakers at the event also included our UK Executive Director John Pettigrew, Statnett CEO Auke Lont, and prominent British MEP Ian Duncan. The UK Minister of State for Energy, Andrea Leadsom MP, provided a video message for the event – a real show of support for the project and its success to date.
